Summer Program

Short-term Japanese Language and Cultural Studies Program

Every summer, our university offers a summer program for international students from various countries to study Japanese language and culture intensively. During the program, Japanese students assist the international students in their studies and daily life. It is also an opportunity for Japanese students to learn about each other’s culture and deepen exchanges.

PROGRAM

Japanese language lessons

9:00 - 10:30 and 10:45 - 12:15 on (20 times in total)

Japanese culture lessons

14:00 - 17:00 (practical learning) (5 times in total)

Other activities

Day trip, welcome party, farewell party, completion ceremony, etc.

JAPANESE LANGUAGE LESSONS

Beginner class

[Eligibility] Levels N5 and N4 of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT); Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Intermediate class

[Eligibility] Level N3 of JLPT; Level B1 of CEFR

Advanced class

[Eligibility] Level N2 and N1 of JLPT; Level B2 of CEFR

JAPANESE CULTURE LESSONS

  • visiting the Nishi Hongwanji Temple (World Cultural Heritage)
  • Japanese Confectionary Workshop
  • trying on yukata, taking a walk on the streets of Kyoto
  • experiencing and learning traditional cultures such as sado (tea ceremony) and shodo (calligraphy)
  • ceramic art practical workshop 

* These events are planned and are subject to change.

ACCOMMODATION

3 Summer Program participants share a room. As there are Kyoto Women’s University students and long-term international students staying in the dormitory, you may share a room with them. 
In the dormitory, you can discuss any problems you may have with your studies or daily life with your roommates, and enjoy various conversations with other students of the same generation.
The dormitory has kitchens, so you can also cook your own meals.
*The dormitory has rules for communal living and all students are expected to abide by these rules.

Summer Program application page

Students who are enrolled (graduated from) in a university that has an agreement with Kyoto Women's University are eligible to apply.

Students who wish to apply for the Summer Program should apply to the person in charge (teacher) at the university where they are enrolled in (graduated from), obtain a recommendation, and then submit the application documents on this page.
