Curriculum

The following is the Kyoto Women's University curriculum.

A self-selective curriculum for progressive learning that fosters student dreams,
interests, and potential

The greatest advantage of the Kyoto Women's University curriculum is that it enables each student to freely establish their learning plan according to their dreams, learning goals, and interests. Unlike in high school, students here are expected to reflect upon themselves and take a proactive approach to study. Maintaining such a proactive attitude is the key to achieving fulfillment during the four years of university life.

Basic Structure of Curriculum

Set up common courses for all students

We have set subjects for all students to study in common, regardless of faculty or department. The feature of this is the highly flexible curriculum, which supports "students' independent learning".

Set up courses according to each department's area of expertise

Specialized subjects for each department / major are organized according to the curriculum policy. First-year education and career education are included as mandatory subjects in the specialized subjects of each department / major.

The minor program

We have established a "Minor Program", which systematically arranges courses in specific fields outside the specialized areas of the undergraduate department or faculty in which the student is majoring. By developing the ability to apply the professional knowledge and skills acquired in undergraduate department or faculty to society, we train human resources who can be active in various fields of society in their own way.

Global English Program

In this program, students who wish to improve their English skills will gain English language skills that will enable them to study abroad and work for global companies, as well as the ability to communicate in the face of the world. The program includes group discussions and lectures by guest speakers, and students can choose from long-term study abroad programs at partner universities abroad or English language training programs in Japan.

Gender Studies Program

This is an interdepartmental program that examines various issues related to gender from different perspectives, such as politics, culture, and history, with a focus on the "Gender Studies Course," one of the core curricula.

Female community leader training program

Developing "women of action" with expertise and practical skills

In addition to the expertise acquired in each department/major, we train women who can discover regional issues, solve problems and act by demonstrating their practical skills, and women who can become regional leaders. We will systematically learn about various collaborative activities in society and acquire the ability to think and act to become a leader in the community through relay lectures by practitioners and experiential learning.

Buddhism program

Foster the power to shine and live your life

The program is designed to deepen students' knowledge and education about Buddhism, cultivate their religious sentiments, and foster their ability to live a better life.
