Library

The libraries of Kyoto Women’s University include the Main Library, Branch Library and Periodicals Room, with approximately 730,000 books collected over many years, making it one of the largest collections among women’s universities in Japan.

They, in particular, house a rich collection of books in the fields of English literature and history as well as Japanese language and Japanese literature.

The Periodicals Room houses academic journals from Japan and abroad, and is highly regarded by researchers.

The Main Library (Building E)

The Main Library of the University houses books from a variety of fields.

The Main Library is located on the west side of Building E, with five stories above ground and one underground. As the main library of the university, it boasts a collection of books from a wide range of fields. The 4th and 5th floors are used as reading rooms; the 2nd and 3rd floors are three-layered open-stack rooms; the 1st floor is an electrically operated closed stack room; and the 1st basement floor is the Periodicals Room.

The Branch Library (Building J)

Specialized library devoted to literature and history fields.

The Branch Library occupies the 1st floor and 1st basement floor of Building J and houses a specialized collection of approx. 140,000 titles, mainly on Japanese literature, English literature and history. Also available are library areas with audio-visual materials, rare books and magazines, as well as study rooms for seminar activities and joint research.

The Periodicals Room (Building E, 1st basement floor)

Room devoted to magazines and newspapers.

The Periodicals Room, located in the basement of Building E (Main Library building), houses approx. 9,000 titles of academic journals from Japan and abroad in various specialized fields as well as popular magazines and major Japanese newspapers. The Periodicals Room also offers research bulletins and papers published by national, public, and private universities and research institutions from all over Japan.
