Faculty of Arts
Department of Japanese Language and Literature
Through studies of Japanese literature and language, this Department explores Japan’s rich culture, language and people. It is most meaningful to pursue these subjects in Kyoto, the setting of numerous literary works since the Heian Period.
Department of English Studies
This Department explores, in particular, British and American literature, the English language, and multicultural understanding. We aim to cultivate internationally-minded persons with a deep understanding of English-speaking cultures who also possess cross-cultural communication skills.
Department of History
We offer comparative studies of Japanese history, Asian History, and European and American history. Through compilation, investigation, and the analysis of historical materials, students establish their own perspectives of history, for present and future use.

Education Course
This Department offers comprehensive learning in education and character building, through theory and practice. With its highly flexible curriculum, the Department trains graduates capable of fulfilling active roles in various phases of education, such as elementary school and kindergarten.

Psychology Course
This Department trains students to be psychology experts specialized in educational issues. Guided by their future career goals, students focus on five areas of study: clinical psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, educational psychology, and social psychology.

Music Education Course
Students develop their sensitivity and power of expression to be able to convey the joy of music through learning theory and practical techniques in a variety of classes. They do this with the aim of becoming music teachers or performing artists.
Department of Pedology
Students comprehensively study the mental and physical development of infants, and the process of character building with the aim of becoming kindergarten teachers or childcare nurses. They acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming childcare professionals capable of establishing supportive relationships between children, their families, and their neighborhoods.

Department of Food and Nutrition
In order to become specialists in the field of food and health, students acquire specialized knowledge and techniques through practice and extensive experiments. In the third year, the Department offers three courses of study: clinical nutrition, health education, and research and development.
Department of Apparel and Space Design
This Department explores what it is that makes the human living environment most comfortable. Students acquire knowledge of design, apparel, and interior design and architecture in order to create a rich lifestyle from the Monozukuri perspective, or the spirit of manufacturing.
Department of Living and Welfare
This Department focuses on nursing care and welfare from the viewpoint of ordinary citizens, with the aim of helping to enrich society. To enable students to acquire specialized knowledge and skills, classes are offered in the following four areas: lifestyle, nursing care, medicine/health/care, and social welfare.

Department for the Study of Contemporary Society
This Department studies and seeks solutions to the problems confronting contemporary society from different perspectives. Students choose two areas of study from among the academic fields of humanics, the family, the community, the international community, the global environment, information, public policy, and management.
